Brian Edward Griffin is a anthropomorphic white labrador retriever and family dog of the Griffin family in Quahog, Rhode Island. A struggling writer, a self-confessed liberal and atheist, Brian has strong friendships with Peter and Stewie. Born in Austin, Texas, Brian later became a stray in Quahog, before being adopted by Peter and the Griffins.[11]
Biography
Early Life
Brian was born on a farm in Austin, Texas, in a litter of five puppies. His father was a guard dog named Coco, his mother was named Biscuit, with the owner of all the dogs being farmers. When Brian was three weeks old, he was taken away from his mother and believed she abandoned him, which lead to most of his personal problems.[12]
Around sometime when he was still a puppy, he was adopted by the Hendersons. Though one day, Brian went missing and the family soon stopped looking for him. Given how he'd forgotten all about them before he learned via his microchip, Brian was possibly very young when this happened.[13]

Trivia
- During early stages of development, Brian was possibly not going to be played by Seth MacFarlane in the proper show and the staff did auditions for a Brian voice actor, with William H. Macy auditioning for the role. However, when voice audition tapes were played for FOX executives, Seth's original Brian voice was put in the batch and was the one chosen, which Seth believes was down to the original pilot pitch featuring Seth as Brian and them presumably not wanting to change it due to being used to hearing Brian as Seth.[14]
